Making the shift towards a natural and organic lifestyle is not as difficult as it may seem. What it does require is a willingness to be an aware consumer who is knowledgeable of what goes into food production and understands where the food comes from. Sometimes I dream of a city where every shop and restaurant only serves natural and organic products and food and wonder about the peace that would come from this considerate conciousness.

Thankfully there are more and more local shops opening with this ethos in mind and they need all of us to support them instead of the big supermarket chains who dedicate perhaps a shelf or two to natural and organic products, but laden the rest with chemically enhanced products and essentially ‘dead’ food masquerading as nutrition. Recently I heard the term ‘ecocide’ and it made me consider the implications of the mass market consumer and what their purchasing habits were in real terms doing to the earth who supports us all.

The Climate Change conference happening in Copenhagen at present is beset with in-fighting and revelations that the science behind the global warming concern could in fact be manipulated. Al Gore, hero to some and certainly one of the biggest names to champion awareness of shifts in mother Earth’s patterns is being taken to court on charges of deliberate misinformation.

Step aside from the mayhem and the mistrust of our so called leaders who honestly don’t seem to know their arse from the elbow unless it carries a fat cheque attached to it and reclaim your own power within this mess. You are responsible for your footprint on this planet. You are responsible for what you eat and what you feed your children and where you choose to purchase products from. You are responsible for the information you read and what you choose to believe in. Once you can accept that, then you can take back your world view and begin to create another paradigm. It starts with a single step, making wise choices day by day, which soon will gain momentum and all of a sudden you will wonder why you never made these changes sooner.

You will feel better, your health will improve and the nagging doubt that you can’t do anything will evaporate when you realise you are actually doing something right. We are part of a new wave of consciousness, manifesting in our consumer culture and it really is time to consider the choices you make so you can look into the hopeful little eyes of every child you know and meet and assure them you are doing your very best to ensure their future is not one that will be carrying the heavy burden of poisonous, unsustainable consumption.
